Sports can both positively and negatively affect children and young adults. For the most part, sports are great for kids, but there are also some downsides to children participating in sports, especially kids in Cranford who already have so much stress. One positive aspect of playing sports includes building positive self-esteem. If the child finds that they are good at the sport, they can then be more confident and have a higher self worth. Also, sports force children to have regular physical activity, and encourage one of the best things for humans- exercise! It allows kids to exercise and creates a foundation for future years of staying in shape. Sports also create the concept of working with others, and what it means to be a good teammate. The last positive I am going to mention is the idea that sports give children a chance to make friends and develop good social skills. On the other hand, there are a couple downsides of playing sports. The first one is that as the child gets older, getting involved in sports may take their time away from schoolwork, or reading, or spending lots of time with family and friends. Sports can also cause children to become selfish, if they are not taught correctly from the beginning. The last downside of playing sports is that there is an increased risk of injury, and a large amount of pressure placed on children who are involved in sports. Sports can be a great activity for children to take part in. They have so many positive benefits and so many options to choose from. While determining whether you should involve your child in a particular sport, make sure to definitely weigh the positives and negatives of this activity.
