Apple season is finally back, so why not go out and pick your own? New Jersey is full of apple orchards but unfortunately not all allow you to “pick your own”. A great place to go is Battleview Orchards in Freehold, NJ, where they offer “pick your own” apples, pumpkins and other fruits too. This is an activity great for all ages and especially for families.
2. Go For a Hike
Nothing is better than taking in the beautiful outdoors on a cool fall day. One of my go to hiking spots is Watchung Reservation because there’s a variety of trails and the view is very pretty. If you go to the right spot you can see the skyline of New York City and there’s another great spot called Washington Rock.
3. Watch Scary Movies
In my opinion, the best way to get ready for Halloween is with scary movies. You get to stay at home curled up on the couch under a blanket with a bowl of popcorn and some of your friends, family or significant other. It is very cost effective and the list of scary/Halloween movies are unlimited. One that I recommend is the new Halloween (2018) starring Jamie Lee Curtis. Micheal Myers makes an even more terrifying return when he escapes from prison four decades later to finish what he started.
4. Fright Fest
At Six Flags Great Adventure in Jackson, NJ, Fright Fest is held annually from the end of September to November. During this time the park is Halloween-oriented and they have attractions like haunted hayrides, a carnival maze, wicked woods and a haunted mansion. During the day it’s the perfect time for families to visit, but after the sun goes down there’s no leisurely stroll. Zombies and ghouls roam the park and hide, waiting to scare those who walk by.
