Did you know the Cranford High School library is up-to-date with the popular books trending on social media platforms? The Dr. Deborah Cannon Partridge Wolfe Library and Learning Commons contains a wide selection of “book tok” and #booksofinstagram books. Book Tok is when a certain book becomes extremely popular quickly amongst TikTok and other social media users. Where the Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens, A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder by Holly Jackson, and The Hating Game by Sally Thorne are all popular Book Tok books AND they are all carried in the school library. You can check any of these books out at any time. 

Where the Crawdads Sing became increasingly popular on TikTok this year right after the movie, directed by Olivia Newman, was released in July 2022 which featured some of Taylor Swift’s music and the beautiful scenery of North Carolina. Where the Crawdads Sing is a coming-of-age novel about a young girl who lives in the deserted marshlands during the 1950s. For years, rumors of her being “the marsh girl” suffocated her and left her with no escape. When a man is killed in this town, Kya, the young girl, becomes a suspect in his murder. As the case unfolds, the secrets of the marsh begin to unravel. 

A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a young adult mystery about a murder case that took place five years before the plot starts. A popular high school girl is murdered by her boyfriend who eventually takes his own life. Pip, the protagonist, is sparked by the closed case when she is required to write about it for her school project. As she learns more about the case she begins to discover the boyfriend might be innocent. Unfortunately, someone in the town doesn’t want Pip to uncover this “solved” mystery. A Good Girl’s Guide to Murder is a quick read because it is so hard to put down with all of its twists and turns. 

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne is a romance about two publishing companies merging and creating tension between two competing assistants. When their bosses want to give one of them a head position it turns Lucy and Josh’s relationship into more than just a work feud. The Hating Game is a quick read and the movie starring Lucy Hale and Austin Stowell came out in 2021 and can be watched on Hulu or Amazon Prime.
