Shivering in the cold, late-November air, the Junior and Senior CHS girls lined up on opposite sides of Memorial Field to compete in the annual Powderpuff flag-football game. Postponed from its traditional date the Tuesday before Thanksgiving break, the game was held Monday, November 27, in below 30° temperatures. Despite the weather, there was no shortage of enthusiasm from the players or the crowd, heightened by the close score throughout the entire game. Thanks to the exceptional offense of Kristina Lowe and defense of Nora Blanche, the seniors managed to pull ahead in the last quarter, maintaining the seniors’ winning streak. Nyla F., a star player on the seniors’ defense, feels that “Powderpuff was the perfect opportunity to bring together CHS juniors and seniors to participate in a lighthearted fun flag football fundraiser.”
Off the field, the snack stand was very active as well, with clubs including the Gender Equity Advocates and Rotary Club braved the cold to sell bracelets, hot dogs, and pretzels to benefit their various causes. One senior volunteer, GEA member Abby N., shared that “it was great seeing lots of familiar faces and talking to my friends while supporting the senior class.” Abby not only helped sell the bracelets and snacks, but she also helped lead numerous meetings at the school where the fundraising bracelets were made. In the end, the night was an overall success for students and teachers alike, with the seniors ultimately triumphing over the juniors.
