What is the best part of the winter holiday season? Is it having no school, seeing family, or giving and receiving presents? Is it the taste of hot chocolate or snowflakes on your tongue? Is it hanging ornaments in the ambiance of a string of lights? Or is it sitting around a crowded table with people you love, eating the most essential Christmas food? Christmas cookies are a staple in many houses across the globe. Which ones would Cranford High School students be most excited to see on their table this Christmas? A sample of CHS students were surveyed for their thoughts on a variety of Christmas cookies. Here’s what CHS students reported back in a Christmas cookie survey:
Chocolate chip cookies, a classic but a necessity, dominated the poll with a staggering 35.6% of answers saying that it tastes the best among nine other options. Perhaps this is because chocolate chip cookies are not season-specific but, rather, can be enjoyed throughout the year. The closest runners-up were chocolate crinkle cookies and double chocolate cookies, each with 11.6%. Oatmeal raisin cookies finished last with only 1.7%. Chocolate chip cookies also went unparalleled for the highest ranking on a scale of five stars. On average, it scored 4.3 stars — the only cookie to score within the four-star range. Most votes, however, awarded the cookie five stars.
Four cookies managed an average of three stars. Sugar cookies earned a mean of 3.7 stars and a mode of five. The chocolate lovers revealed themselves when most people voted four stars for double chocolate cookies. The average was slightly lower at 3.5 stars. Chocolate crinkle cookies and snickerdoodle cookies tied with a mean of 3.3 stars, but the gooey cinnamon delight soared higher with a mode of four stars. Chocolate crinkle cookies fell behind with a mode of three stars.
Long story short, CHS students came to the consensus that chocolate chip cookies were their overall favorite! Perhaps this is why they are a fan favorite in the cafeteria during lunch.
