As part of what will be Dialogue’s series of interviews of new members of the CHS staff, I interviewed Ms. Smith from the arts department on her experience before coming to and thus far at Cranford High School.
- What class(es) do you teach?
I teach Photography, Art History, and Graphic Design.
- What high school and college did you graduate from?
I graduated from Addison High School, in Addison, NY. Then, graduated from Lycoming College, in Williamsport, PA.
- What did you study in college?
I majored in Art, with a specialization in Education. I also studied Spanish at Universitat Autonoma de Barcelona.
- Where did you teach previously? How is teaching at CHS different?
I taught elementary art in Plainfield, and Middlesex, NJ prior to coming to Cranford. It was a unique experience working with young children. In elementary, I was able to teach the foundational blocks and the motor skills needed for Art. Now that I am teaching high school at CHS, I am able to focus on more advanced and specialized content.
- What do you look forward to in your career at CHS?
I look forward to getting to know the students and staff at CHS. I also look forward to seeing the creativity that my students show in their art projects.
More interviews of this type will be held with new staff members at CHS. If there is anyone that our readers, students and staff alike, wish for Dialogue to interview, feel free to contact the Dialogue staff!
