The final performance of the marching band’s H-O-M-E took place November 26th during the performing arts department’s roadshow to the town’s middle schools. Now that the season has officially come to an end, it is time to take a look back through it all.
Jeff Chambers’ H-O-M-E follows an astronaut’s journey through space. The first movement, ‘Lost in Space,’ followed as color guard soloist Riley Turnamian departs from a fellow guard member as she begins her journey into space. This upbeat, first movement was conducted by drum major Molly Parker as the band and guard traversed around the field. The second movement, ‘Homesick,’ conducted by Andrew Cisneros, comes down to a slower tempo as the ballad features the now homesick astronaut wishing to return home. This movement also features mellophone soloist Natalie Cisneros, as well as baritone soloist Dylan Macnab. The third and final movement, ‘Returning Home’, conducted by Matt Heim, follows the soloist as she makes her epic return home back to Earth as she ends the performance in an embrace with another guard member. This triumphant movement contains two separate features, including the color guard’s rifle line sporting brand-new airblades and an impressive feature from the drumline.
The band saw great competitive success through H-O-M-E and the efforts they put into the performance, as they consistently placed first for their section in each of the four marching band competitions that they entered, including the prestigious Ludwig-Musser Classic at Metlife Stadium! Finally, we would like to acknowledge the band’s current senior class and the hard work that they have all put into this season in addition to prior ones. The three formerly mentioned drum majors, Molly Parker, Andrew Cisneros, and Matt Heim are three of the band’s seniors, each playing flute, snare drum, and trumpet respectively. Additionally, the two previously mentioned mellophone and baritone soloists, Natalie Cisneros and Dylan Macnab, are both seniors. Natalie is the mellophone section leader and Dylan the low brass section leader, in which he also more commonly plays the trombone. The low brass section also includes seniors Charlie Canedo and Ethan Stubler, both of whom are also trombone players. In addition to Andrew, the aforementioned drumline also consists of seniors Erin Bradford, Reilly Cogdill, and Patrick McCoid. Erin was this season’s drumline captain and center snare, and she has been on the snare line for the past three seasons. Additionally, Reilly Cogdill has been the drumline’s resident tenor drum player for the past three seasons. Finally, Patrick maintained the position as the bottom bass drum anchor for all four years they were a member of the drum line. These four were not the band’s only senior percussionists, however, as pit members Dylan Amrose and Arthur Kennedy have also both officially completed their final band seasons. The low winds section features two more of the band’s seniors, Nam Nguyen and Ava Orr, with Ava being this season’s saxophone section leader. The final two band seniors include Clara Carpenter, a trumpet player, and Olivia Wall, a flute player, both of whom are the section leaders for each of their respective instruments. Finally, we would like to recognize the four seniors of the color guard: Emma Kornik, Emily Remy, Nicholas Rengifo, and Ava Szeles. Emma Kornik was this season’s color guard captain and has been a member of the guard for all of her four years at CHS. Remy and Ava have been members of the guard for the past two seasons, and Remy was a part of this season’s rifle line. Finally, Nico was a newer yet welcome addition to the group, having been the only senior to join the band within this final season.
We are very proud of the marching band and especially the band’s senior class this season, and we wish nothing but the best for them in their future endeavors.
