This season for the Cranford High School girls soccer team was one for the record books. The Cougars captured the heart of the community, winning nail-biter after nail-biter and making impressive runs to both the sectional and county finals.
Several players were recognized at the Union County banquet in December, and more recently, some of the team’s top athletes received honors at the state level.
At the New Jersey Girls Soccer Coaches Association All-Star Banquet, the best players in the state are recognized through votes cast by coaches. Sarah Suh, Vannessa Kelly, Elena Amitie, Izzy Reibarkh, Ava Coa, and Lillie Friedman were all named among the top players in their section.
Suh earned additional distinction, being selected to the Top 20 North Region 2 team. Head coach Kerry Yorkanis was also honored, receiving North 2 Coach of the Year recognition.
In addition to state honors, Vanessa Kelly was selected to First Team All Group 3 by NJ.com, and Izzy Reibarkh was selected to Second Team All Group 3 by NJ.com.
The awards mark a fitting conclusion to a memorable season for the Cougars.
